Easy 2-Step Patina

Patina solution comes in a 2oz bottle; Metal Base for Patina comes in a 2oz jar.

Create a beautiful patina finish on your gourd with this Easy 2-Step Patina! Step one is the metal base. Just paint or sponge on your gourd. Step two is applying the Patina Solution over the Metal Base. It can be sprayed on, drizzled on, or even sponged on (we recommend using a Sea Sponge for a beautiful textured effect!).

Make sure the Metal Base is wet so it can react with your Patina Solution. If your base has dried too long you can reactivate it by painting another coat of the base on.

Easy 2-Step Patina is available in 3 colors of Metal Base and 3 colors of Patina Solution:

Metal Base: Available in Brass, Bronze, and Copper
Patina Solution: Available in Marine, Jade, and Turquoise*

*Please note: "Turquoise" was previously named "Light Green"

Mix and match the 3 metal base colors with the 3 patina colors for a total of 9 different looks!

Change the look of your Patina finish just by the way you apply the Metal Base and the Patina: The Metal Base can be painted on for a smooth look, or sponged on with a Sea Sponge to create an amazing textured finish!

The Patina Solution can by sponged on with a Sea Sponge, dripped on, or sprayed on to create entirely different looks!

Swatch samples are meant as a general guide for color, each combination of metal base with patina solution will change color depending on reaction time of the solution reacting with the metal. If you would like to experiment with colors combinations and reaction times, you may want to grab a bag of Gourd Practice Pieces before checkout!

Patina comes with a drip spout; a spray nozzle attachment is included with the Jade and the Marine Patina (Turquoise is too thick to by sprayed).

The Spray Method and the Drip Method:
-paint or sponge a generous coat of Metal Base onto the desired area of your gourd.
Drip Method:
-using the provided drip cap, drip on the Patina solution right away while the metal base is still wet. Applying while the base is wet will ensure you get a beautiful reaction between the Metal and Patina.
Or use the Spray Method:
-spray on your Patina solution using the provided spray attachment; be sure your metal base is sitll wet (if your base has dried, you can reactivate it by painting on another coat over the top).
-allow the solution to react until the desired color is reached, usually 2-6 hours, and as long as 24 hours
-stop the reaction by applying a spray varnish

Note: Both the Marine and the Jade Patina can be sprayed over the metal base. The Turquoise Patina is too thick to go through the spray nozzle, so it is best applied with the 'Drip Metho' or sponged on.

Once the patina has reached the color you desire, you can stop the reaction by sealing with a spray varnish. We recommend Krylon spray varnish in a "matte" finish so preserve the "antiqued" look of your patina. (Also, some brands of spray varnishes will diminish the Patina effect because of their harsh ingredients.)

The "Celtic Knot" art piece features a patina finish created using Bronze Metal Base and Marine Patina Solution.

Note: Patina products can be purchased in larger quantities direct from the manufacturer, Sculpt Nouveau, however they will not have the specailized nozzle attachments (the drip spout for creating the "drip" look, or the "fine mist" spray nozzle in place of the large-spray noz).

The patina effect on the "Celtic Knot" art piece shown here was done using the "fine mist" nozzle attachment.
