These Premium Tall-Body gourds are sought after by both artists and musicians alike. These gourds are often used as ipu heke bottoms (see photos below).

Premium Quality does not denote a specific shell color. These gourds are from our new harvest and may lighten over time.

An ipu heke is a percussion instrument often used in hula dancing. It is made from 2 gourds, and the bottom gourd is usually a premium quality tall-body gourd. Because these gourds are so difficult to grow, they are priced higher than other gourds of the same diameter.

Up until now our premium tall-body gourds, aka Heke Bottoms, have only been available via Custom Order. (Due to low supply, we are not currently accepting custom orders for ipu heke).

In addition, the demand is so high, we normally sell out before the crop even comes in! (This is especially true with our larger sizes, anything 8.5" in diameter and over). However, we are happy to announce we have a limited number of our 7”-7.9" diameter, premium Tall-Body gourds available as a box of 3 for purchase on our web site.

Height ranges from 13”-16” tall on average.
