Our NEW “Full Canvas” Canteen Gourds are cut with a smaller opening, perfect for making lidded vessels or designs that require the maximum canvas size!

Each gourd has been hand selected for shape. They arrive art-ready, which means they are cleaned both inside and out!
Note: This box is currently available in the 5”-6.9” diameter size in our lower-priced, ‘Bargain Quality’ option. If you would like to see this style offered in our regular, higher quality Canteen gourd, and/or in larger sizes, please let us know! We would be happy to create new box options when our new crop is available around April-May of 2024.
*‘Bargain Quality’ gourds are ones that may be a bit asymmetrical or have shell blemishes or other minor flaws. However they have good shells overall and most blemishes can be easily hidden or worked around.

takes advantage of all the available canvas space by incorporating the top of the gourd in the design:
Shown above, beautiful carved Canteen gourd with lid, by Carrie Dearing. Carrie hand-made the lid for this piece, and writes: “I used a jigsaw and cut out a thin piece of wood and sanded the edges on a belt sander for the top part. Then I adhered with two-part epoxy another cut piece of wood underneath, which matched the opening so it has a clean fit.”

Our 'Bargain Quality' Bottle gourds will be a great addition to your gourd collection if you don't mind a few imperfections. They may have small cracks, scarring, and other shell blemishes which make each gourd unique. They are great for carving and customers often turn them into birdhouses, holiday figurines, lamps, etc.

Accent your gourd art with a splash of brilliant color! Use Metallic Inks for durable, reflective color that is long lasting and will not fade, chip, or peel off your gourd surface.
As with the regular Gourd Ink Dyes, they are alcohol-free and are specially formulated to provide a rich color that withstands time. Thicker than the regular Gourd Ink Dyes, the Metallic Gourd Inks are applied using a paintbrush or Fine Tip Applicator and go on as a solid, opaque color (no transparency). Mix well before applying.
