"I have finally completed another carved gourd project which I started over a year ago. It is a canteen gourd from Welburn. I changed my plans to include deep carving once I had the gourd cut in two pieces and saw how thick it was. I’ve included progress photos.
The color is Gourdmaster ink dyes and transparent acrylics. I had to use a lot of Formula 49 to “water down” the intense colors since the carved gourd surface is so porous. It also has pyrography details. The finish is a spray acrylic varnish. The inspiration is a Trailing Black-Eyed Susan variety called ‘Spanish Eyes’ which actually has multiple colors of flowers (Thunbergia Alata ‘Spanish Eyes’)." - Nancy Foster
