Wonderful gourd piece by Carolann Chambliss! Measures approx.. 14" wide by 12" tall. Here is what the artist shares in her post: 'This is called "Truiste." Truiste means "home" in west African. The symbols in the squares have meanings. I have attached the "key." The "family" symbol also includes "community" - the circle represents the house, the dot is the Family. Symbolizes Unity. The "fortitude" symbol is literally translated to "wind-resistant house" and includes "preparedness" in its description.
There is a pattern in a band near the bottom that is a sickle pattern (V shapes, representing farming) The colors also have meaning - green = harvest, growth, spiritual growth. Maroon = mother earth.
