Gourd Festival 2025 Class
Date + Time: May 22nd, 9am-5pm
Location: Welburn Gourd Farm
Level: All Levels
Random weave is a basket weaving technique that is easy to learn. It is similar to a bird weaving material to create a beautiful and functional nest. You can use a variety of materials. In this class we will use commercial space dyed reed.
There's no specific pattern, but a natural flow when weaving in this style. Most of the time there is little control over the shape, but we will be using a “defective gourd” as a mold.
Making baskets is slow and relaxing, but over time, they always turn out beautiful in their wild, tangled look.
Materials provided (if you have your own tools, you are welcome to bring your own):
- 16-inch diameter "defective" bushel gourd
- Spaced dyed reed #2,#3
- Assorted embellishments
- Tapestry Needle and Sinew
Tools to bring:
