Get More Votes With Well-Lit Photos!

Keep in mind, clear, well-lit photos get more votes! We recommend photographing your art outside on a cloudy day (no shadows on artwork) and using a neutral background. For best results avoid black or white blankets or sheets, both of which will cause you to lose detail in your photo. Opt for a cream or light gray color for a background instead. Here are some examples of good art photos:

This fun 'Monster Gourd' by Sheila Mikkelsen Thorp is a great example of a well-lit photo. Thank you, Sheila for sharing your art with us on Facebook!

This fun gourd by Kathy Larson has been photographed outdoors. The smooth, even lighting really showcases her piece.

When photographing outside, make sure there are no harsh shadows on your art, which makes it difficult to see the details. Thank you, Kathy for sharing your art with us on Facebook!

This cute Gourd Ghost by Christy Barajas was photographed on 18% gray seamless paper (common in the photography world) with studio lighting.

An easy way to get great photos is to use a gray seamless roll of paper OR cloth as your background AND photograph outdoors on a cloudy day.

Please Read if Your Gourd Requires More Than One Photo

Only one photo may be entered into the contest of your art.

If your piece has multiple sides or views, we recommend using an app for making photo collages (a collage is single image with multiple photos) . You may use any app of your choice. We found that Adobe Spark Post works well and can be used FREE.

Adobe Spark Post

The collage photo of the cool Ghost/Jack-O-Lantern gourd shown here was made using the app "Spark Post" by Adobe. It is free for the basic version and easy to use.

Ready to submit your art? Use our form below to upload your photo!
(Please note: Due to the number of entries, we cannot accept photos emailed to us. You must enter your photos using the form below. If your artwork has multiple sides and you need to show more than one photo, please create ONE photo using a collage app, such as the Adobe Spark Post app mentioned above.)

We're sorry the Halloween Gourd Art Contest is over. Voting will begin on Saturday, September 28th. Be sure to check back to cast your vote then!

Note: Some devices may cut off a portion of your image in the preview. Your image is actually NOT cut off, it is simply not showing you the correct preview. Your image will display correctly when it is displayed for voting on our web site. (We are working with our app developer to resolve this issue.)
