During this two-day course, students will learn how to mark a grid on their gourd, draw an inverted “Y” pattern, and carve the pattern to create a stunning woven design. Depending on the size of the gourd, most students will complete this project at home. But fear not, you will have plenty of time and hands-on opportunity to make progress in class so that you will be able to work independently at home to finish the piece.

For January through November: You may return most unused items purchased at Welburn Gourd Farm , Inc. within 30 days of purchase.

We will pay the return shipping costs if the product is defective or if the return is a result of an error on our part.

If the item is returned for any other reason , you are responsible for the return shipping costs and may be charged a restocking fee of 7 percent.

No returned merchandise will be accepted without a Return Material Authorization (RMA). To get a RMA call our office at 1-760-728-4271.

We will credit you in the same manner as your original payment within 7 days of receiving the returned item. Any product advertised as non-returnable may not be returned .

Manufacturers Warranty

Products under a Manufacturer Warranty that are defective or malfunction need to be returned to the address provided in the Warranty Paper Work, which is shipped with the product.

Tools to bring:

  • carver / rotary tool

  • burrs (carbide wheel, Saburr Tooth safe end dovetail or acute inverted cone, carbide filigree bur (not what is sold at Welburn), sanding drum bur, shaping wheel or shaving bur)  

  • cleaned, opened and prepared, thick gourd at least 6” diameter. A tall, cylindrical gourd works nicely, or tall canteen gourds. It is best to work with a gourd that has a similar circumference from the highest point of the design to the lowest point.

  • apron

  • eye protection

  • ear protection

  • mask / respirator to protect from dust

  • flexible cloth measuring tapeline marking tool

  • regular pencil and 2 colored pencils of contrasting color (eg. red and green)

  • sanding tools such as diamond files or riffler files

  • white charcoal pencil (optional).

  • ½” graph paper
  • sanding sealer  
  • sand paper
  • project sample

Cancellation Policy:

  • For a full refund, notice of cancellation must be received 14 days prior to the start of class to respect our teacher's time and preparation of materials.
  • Cancellations received outside of 14-day window are non-refundable. Credit may be applied towards a future class.
