Precious Morning Glory by Rosario Wilke

Join artist/ instructor Rosario Wilke in this fun carving class. You will create this beautiful, simple but elegant and contemporary sculpture.  You will carve in simple steps, a rustic morning glory as a center of the design, cutting off the center of the flower to lighten the look of the entire design. Also, you will execute a series of different textures in a chronological order, all around the morning glory, building down layers dancing around the center of the design, creating two layers of textures mimicking a skirt, giving the illusion of a double layer and adding interest and depth.

Using Gourd Master metallic acrylic paints, you will paint the morning glory and the different layers of the sculpture adding color and richness.  Last but not least, you will add a large glass bead to the center of the flower and inlay copper wire, framing around the morning glory’s background and flowing along and around between the two layers of carving, harmonizing the design. Also, you will add some glass beads as embellishment giving it an elegant finishing touch.

Materials provided (if you have your own tools, you are welcome to bring your own):

• Written instructions
• Complete wooden stand
• All glass beads embellishments.

Tools to bring:

• A clean half of a canteen gourd, any size
• Dust musk
• Eye protection
• Woodburner with your favorite tip
• Dremel or similar rotary tool all the burrs that you already own
• Sanding paper or sanding sponges
• Riffler files
• Copper wire 20 or 22 gage
• Gourd Master metallic acrylic paint: purple, blue, gecko green, and any copper acrylic paint.
• Power strip 
• General gourding tool box

Additional Details:

Due to our rural location, we recommend that you pack a snack or a small lunch to keep your creative energy flowing! Our store will have some limited snacks available for purchase if needed.
