Cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating metal artwork with colored glass powder or enamel, separated and held in place by fine metal strips or wire. In this class, we will adapt the same principle using a no-heat technique designed for working on gourds.
You will create a beautiful lotus design using wire strips and colored sand, learning how to shape, inlay, and layer materials to add texture, light, and depth. The class will also cover how to color sand, select suitable sand varieties, and choose wires and adhesives appropriate for a three-dimensional surface such as a gourd.
After completing the lotus design, some will finish coloring the body of the gourd in class, others will finish this step at home, attach embellishment, and have a completed decorative piece to enjoy.
