Friendship gourd art by Leonie Caron! Leonie writes in her post, "This ipu (gourd) depicts a story about Pueo (pu-Ā-o...owl) and Pea (PAY-ah...Bear). Pueo and Pea liked each other, and they both loved a certain large, strong tree in the forest. Pueo liked to rest up high in the branches, and Pea liked to nap against the trunk in the shade. Pueo loved to eat sweet things and salty things and delicious things and didn’t mind going the distance and thru muck and mire to get those things. Pea also liked to eat sweet things and salty things and delicious things and ate pretty much whatever was around that day. They liked hanging out together. But one day Pueo said “I have to go”. Pueo flew away into the night, but Pea wasn’t sad, and neither was Pueo because they knew that they loved each other. And that’s all that mattered. This ipu measures about 9” x 9”.
